July - Sep (Of the year before) • Apply for a passport. You need it for aptitude tests. • Use the summer breaks to do extra project works. • Register for the aptitude tests.

July- August • Dispatch letters of inquiry to sundry universities. • Start taking TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, TSE or GRE (Subject Tests) depending upon your level and field of study. Log on to testtutor.com, GMATtutor, 4tests, Granview or Kaplan for information on these tests.

Sep - Oct • Start mailing your applications before the Christmas holidays to avoid postal delays. • Obtain transcripts from your universities and letters of recommendations from the professors. • Get friends and professors to do an unbiased critique of your Statement of Purpose.

Nov – Mar • Report your aptitude test scores to universities.

Jan – Mar • For the graduate program don't hesitate to contact the professor - whose research work you are interested in. It might change your waitlist status to 'confirmed'.

Apr • Don't accept any offer before the deadline (April 15 generally). • Be patient if you don't get an offer in the first round. • If you have received your I-20, apply for the student visa. • Contact the University for Campus Housing Options.

May - July • Book your air ticket.
